Mortal Kombat Marketing
June 16th, 2008 by evpstud
The other day I bought a Playstation 2 game for my son that came with 600 games from the old Super Nintendo, the SNES. That was hot when I was a kid and it was fun to play some of the classic games I loved again. My son particularly liked BattleToads and Mortal Kombat 3.
It was while we were playing Mortal Kombat 3 that something struck me as similar to internet business.
Remember that kid you used to play Mortal Kombat with that was the only one who knew the super multi-hit combos that would wipe you out indefensibly without even a chance to fight back? That happens every day on the internet. It happens when somebody with more marketing experience stumbles across your business and sees you’ve got a good thing going. Then they bring on their leverage.
With professional tools, existing customer lists, bigger ad spend budgets, and the fierce determination of being new in that part of the market, they wipe you out almost overnight. I’ve done this myself in search engine optimization. Other businesses were sitting cozy at their #1 spot on the SERPs until I spotted them and decided I wanted that spot for myself. I used my marketing kung-fu combos to take them out and enjoy defending my positions in the SERPs.
What’s my point? LEARN KUNG-FU. If you don’t, your competitors will. For search engine marketing kung-fu, I recommend you start by reading this.
